The original Primanti's location since 1933

Founded in 1933 by Joe Primanti in the Strip District of Pittsburgh, Primanti’s has become synonymous with the STEEL CITY.

Joe Primanti started with just a single cart in the strip district serving truckers that would deliver all kinds of goods to the warehouses in that district. After receiving tremendous praise and rising business profits, Joe Primanti thought to himself, “I need a storefront, so that I can better serve my customers and increase my business”.

So, after scouring the area for just the right location, he found the right place located at 46 18th Street, Pittsburgh, PA. 15222 and as of 7:55am March 8, 2017 (412)263-2142 the original Primanti’s location is still in operation, serving the best casual dining food in the STEEL CITY and operates 24 hours a day 7 days a week.

Joe Primanti did have some help getting his business started. His brothers Dick, Stanley and their nephew John DePriter.

When the original Primanti’s opened, the hours were 3am to 3pm and the were feeding a lot of hungry truckers and shift workers. All of this was going on during the most difficult part of the Great Depression. So tell me that these guys didn’t work hard to become a success.

After moving out to California in the 40’s, Joe turned the business operations to his brothers and nephew. Dick, Stanley and John kept the business going for another 30 years or so. After Dick and Stanley passed away, John thought it was time to let go of the family business.

In 1974 John sold the business to Jim Patrinos, who has since turned Primanti’s into the marvelous institution that you see and know of today.

Thank You, Joe Primanti, for all of your hard work and delicious food that has come from something that you started way back in 1933.
